On Thursday the 17th of June 2021, the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development – BMZ laid the foundation stone for the construction component of the PROJECT ” REDUCTION OF CHILD RIGHTS VIOLATION AT THE BAKOTEH DUMPSITE”. where he also visited the dumpsite accompanied by the SOS Children’s Villages International Region Director the Lord Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council and the Director for Children’s Affairs – Ministry of Children, Women and Social Welfare.
SOS Children’s Villages The Gambia and Herman Gmeiner Fonds Deutschland (HGFD) in partnership with the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) secured funding from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development 768,683 Euros (GMD 42,661,906.00) to implement the BMZ Bakoteh Dumpsite Project. Project is a 2 years project funded by the(German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ. The construction components consist of two access roads, three fire hydrants, an open shed, two toilet blocks and the installation of 30 solar lights)for the Bakoteh Dumpsite.
The aim of the project is to ” REDUCTION OF CHILD RIGHTS VIOLATION AT THE BAKOTEH DUMPSITE” . The Minister handed over two quad bikes, 30 fire extinguishers, and tree planting materials for the green zone of the project. The SOS Children’s Villages International Director Region Mr. Piot and the Lord Mayor of KMC planted two seedlings to mark the commencement for the planting of 500 seedlings for the project’s green zone.
The event was also graced by the FAO Country Representative to The Gambia, UNICEF Country Representative to The Gambia
