SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE’S DAY

NO CHILD SHOULD GROW UP ALONE.

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES ON SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES DAY.

“Hermann Gmeiner together with Maria Hofer and other social visionaries believed that every child needs reliable relationships and a place of belonging. Today, on Herman Gmeiner’ s 103rd birthday and more than 70 years after the founding of SOS Children’s Villages, this legacy is as relevant as ever.”

“From the war in Ukraine to the chronic food insecurity in the Horn of Africa, from harmful effects of the pandemic to the exodus of over 100 million people forcefully displaced, children around the world risk growing up without the support they need to survive, let alone thrive.

Now more than ever, we must keep families together by offering services that strengthen them in the face of multifold hardships. We must step up to innovative care options that are tailored to the unique needs of each child.

We must continue to raise our voices to call on governments, institutions and communities to advance social protection and honor the well-being and the rights of all children.”

Dereje Wordofa, President of SOS Children’s Villages.
