Earlier today three members of the SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia National Youth Network and the National Youth Coordinator are currently participating at the Youth Connect Summit 3.0 at a local hotel in The Gambia organized by the National Youth Council with the Ministry of Youth This year theme is “Moment for the youth; Action for more socio-economic development”.
The event is a 3-day event from the 23rd to the 25th of October. Our Youth Empowerment Projects stalls are also there. The 3-day summit brought together more than 325 young people, government, private sectors, UN agencies, and partners.
The theme: Moment for Youth; Action for More Socio-economic Development is meant to empower young people to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. The initiative aims at connecting Gambian youth for socio-economic transformation.
The summit is funded by the government of the Gambia, UNDP, and other partners. All sectors of young people were represented at the summit.

Bakary Y Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports in his statement said the power of youth cannot be underestimated in this age of rapid change and innovation; your creativity, passion, and determination can transform the landscape of our society. “As a ministry, we are committed to equipping youth with the required skills and competencies to excel and by extension help contribute to the Socio-Economic Development of the Gambia”
Ms. Seraphine Wakana, United Nations Resident Coordinator ” YouthConnekt is a chance to nurture youth by providing key knowledge and skills focusing on employment, technological innovation, gender equality, and sustainable development”.
